An early strike from Soleyman King steered Mohammedan Sporting Club to taste their first win in the TVS Federation Cup Football tournament defeating Uttar Baridhara by a solitary goal in the first match yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
After winning the match Mohammedan earned five points from three matches and now waiting for the result of the match between Sheikh Russel and Muktijoddha to be played later in the day.
Sean Lane with newly formed team demonstrated impressive performance in their all three matches but had to struggle for goals in all of their matches. The Black and White drew their first two matches goalless with Sheikh Russel and 1-1 with Muktijoddha.
On the day Mohammedan despite played with full authority throughout 90 minutes games and also took the lead early in the eight minute but rest of the match did all but to add more goals when they had the every opportunity to have a handsome margin victory.
On the other hands, Uttar Baridhara, who suffered defeats in all their three matches, had chances at least to draw the match against Mohammedan when their two attempts denied by the cross bar.
However, the match was kicked off with Mohammedan went on with immense pressing game and opened the net inside ten minute.
It was quick build up through the midway and forward Soleyman could not run fast as the ball went out of his range but was sharp to gain the possession when a defensive midfielder of Baridhara made a back pass to a defender. Soleyman the forward from Mali after receiving the ball did not miss to beat advancing goalkeeper before placing the ball into open net (1-0). Baridhara could have the equalizer on 39th minute from a counter attack but a good header of Mohamed Sohel hit the cross bar.
Mohammedan, who exhilarated their attacks in the second half and kept the match under the control playing with almost one-sided game but despite opening some good chances failed to mark the targets, specially, Soleyman King disappointed much.
Mohammedan could have made the advantage double on 81st minute but an attempt of Ugoochukwu Obe on a long cross from Soleymane was saved by Baridhara goalkeeper Azad Hossen.
But Soleymane stunned all with his disappointing approach having three close consecutive opportunities but failed to score. Soleyman got the ball in 89th minute after breaking the off-side trap but his first two attempts went straight to goalkeeper and the third was a sky high shot and it looked shaky that the Mali forward at one a one situation failed to mark the target.
