The first national council since after the death of Jaitya Party founder HM Ershad took place yesterday which named GM Quader as the chairman of the party. Raushon Ershad has been selected as the chief patron of the party. This is a ceremonial post and has been created for the widow of the party founder and will last till her death.
The ninth council was held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 10am in the capital yesterday. The decision was announced by Sheikh Serajul Islam, the chief election commissioner of the council and it came through a voice vote as there were no other contestants to vie the party position.
However, GM Quader, later announced that Mashiur Rahman Ranga will remain the secretary general of the party. He came up with the decision based on the power bestowed upon him through the constitution of the party. “The council also created five more posts of co-chairman while eight additional secretaries general will be selected from each division,” said Serajul to the Independent.
The names will be declared soon, added Serajul. Due to her physical illness, Raushon could not attend the council while Ersahd’s son Rahgir Al Mahi was also absent. In the speech, the newly-elected chairman Quader urged the party-men to remain united and move forward for the development of the country and party as well.
