A bicycle distribution programme among underprivileged girl students was held yesterday in Basatpur area of Jashore district.
This activity is a part of a CSR programme of City Bank Limited initiated by Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) and implemented by local daily Gramer Kagoj.
A total of 41 girls received the bicycles in the programme.
Local Member of Parliament Alhaj Sheikh Afil Uddin was the chief guest of the function. Pulak Kumar Mondal, upazila nirbahi officer of Sharsha, Jashore, Sakina Khatun, district women's affairs officer of Jashore, Jahan-e-Gulshan, upazila women's affairs officer, Sharsha; Md. Ashanur Rahman, chief economist and country business manager of City Bank Ltd., Mobinul Islam Mobin, editor, Gramer Kagoj and Hasibur Rahman, executive director, MRDI attended the programme as the special guests.
Chief Guest Alhaj Sheikh Afil Uddin MP said "Education is the backbone of a nation. Girls’ education is a priority of the present government. This initiative is an example of how business can contribute to the implementation of the government’s development agenda”, he added.
Bicycle recipients are the daughters of the members of Basatpur Women and Child Development Organisation. The organisation runs a skill development training centre for women under the same programme.
