Detective Branch of Police arrested the prime accused in a school girl murder case on Thursday night.
He has been identified as Shahjahan Habib Munna, 22, son of Saiful Islam of Pachpara in Trishal upazila here.
The victim was identified as Nadira Akhtar, 10, daughter of Yunus Ali, a van-puller of town’s Mashkanda area.
Munna, the cousin of victim Nadira Akhtar, a class-III student, confessed his involvement in killing of the girl.
Nadira was murdered as she repeatedly denied the proposal of Munna on various occasions, said police quoting confessional statement of the killer suspect.
Soon after the incident, police detained Munna’s mother Happy Akhtar on Thursday evening from her residence and following her statement, the detectives arrested Munna from the town’s Shankipara area at around 9.30 pm, said Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge :of Detective Branch of Police, Mymensingh.
Police also seized the private car used in the killing. However, police later released Happy after interrogation.
Quoting Munna the police said Munna went out with the private car of the lawmaker at around 1 pm Thursday to do some repair work of the vehicle at a town’s workshop and committed the crime. Munna stabbed the girl repeatedly, slaughtered her inside the car and left the body in town’s Bade Kolpa area, some four kilometers away from the victim’s house, police said.
The lawmaker helped the police team in arresting Munna, said OC of DB. Nadira went out for her school at around 8:30 am and as the girl did not return home until afternoon, family members searched her here and there, but could not find any trace of her, said police.
Local people found the body of Nadira lying in a paddy field beside the by-pass road at Bade Kolpa at around 4 pm on the day and informed the police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Several stab injuries were found on the body, including throat, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station said. Victim’s father lodged a case yesterday with the same police station accusing Munna.
