Muktijoddha Mancha 
sues VP Nur, 28 more

Muktijoddha Mancha, accused of attacking DUCSU vice president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur and his associates on December 22 noon at DUCSU, has filed a case against 29 and unidentified 15/20 people, including Nur, at the Shahbagh Police Station. Assistant police commissioner, Ramna zone, SM Shamim, confirmed the matter yesterday. A member of the Mancha, also Dhaka University Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall branch Chhatra League vice-president, DM Sabbir Hossain filed the case on Wednesday. He is the son of Enamul Haque of Kotalipara in Gopalganj.

Azimul Haque, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Ramna Division of Police has confirmed the facts of the case. He told the media, "A total of 29 people, including Nur, have been indicted by the Mancha." The complaint says, vice president  Nurul Haque Nur and his associates attacked the members of the Muktijoddha Mancha by closing the building

gate of Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU).

Last Sunday, the leaders of the Muktijoddha Mancha and the Chhatra League had beaten up Nur and his associates by entering the DUCSU office. At least 30 people, including Nur and his fellow Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Council (BGSRC) members were severely injured in the attack. Two of them were thrown from the roof of the DUCSU building.   

In protest, students, teachers, lawyers, journalists and various political figures strongly condemned the attack and termed it a heinous act. At the same time, they demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrator and resignation of the university proctor, as he had failed to take any steps, despite repeated attacks on the campus.

DU asks students to give information about the incident

Meanwhile, DU authorities yesterday urged witnesses and interested students to submit information with documents regarding the incident to make a fresh investigation.

The authorities asked the students to drop their available information with supporting documents in a box set up at the office of the Dean of Arts Faculty also convener of the probe body Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hosain, said a press release.

Students have to submit their documents with their names, cell numbers and addresses in writing before 2 pm of December 28. The information providers’ name will not be disclosed, the press release added.

Case handed over to DB

Meanwhile, the case against the attackers of Nur and his associates has been handed over to the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB). They will handle the case filed with the Shahbag Police Station.  Shahbag Police Station SI Shariful Islam confirmed the matter to the media.

On Monday, SI Mohammad Roich Uddin of Shahbag Police Station filed the case.

Including eight names of the Muktijoddha Mancha leaders, 43 people have been charged in the case. They are former central president of the Aminul Islam Bulbul, former general secretary Al Mamun, Dhaka University branch president ASM Sonnet, general secretary Yasir Arafat Turjo, Sir A F Rahman Hall branch president Imran Sarkar, Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall general secretary Iyad Al Riad and Mahbub Hasan Niloy.

Three of the accused have been arrested. They are now on police remand.

Later, Nur also filed separate complaints. In his charge, Nur accused 37 people, including the president of Chhatra League's DU branch, Sanjit Chantra Das, general secretary DU Chhatra League, and  DUCSU AGS Saddam Hussain.

Injured are still in DMCH  

Meanwhile, no decision has been taken to finalize the release of the injured being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), including Nur, according to DMCH director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin.

He said, "No final decision has been made regarding the treatment of anyone including Nur. We have a thirty-member medical board, and they have said that Faruk Hossain, who was injured in the ear, can be released."

About Nur's condition, Nasir Uddin said, "I visit him two to three times daily.  I told his father to come to me in case of any problem.  The injury that Nur has received will hopefully be cured if he takes rest at home. But we will keep him if he wants to stay. "

Crude bomb found on Madhur Canteen compound

Miscreants threw a cocktail in front of the west door of Madhur Canteen of the DU yesterday morning. No one was injured in the incident as the cocktail did not explode properly.

Proctor of the university Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani said, “We have not yet identified those who are responsible for the incident. Some are trying to defame the peaceful environment. Police are investigating the matter."  

Meanwhile, social media users have criticized the naming of the severely injured Tuhin Farabi in the case.
