Country’s ‘Home of Cricket’ returned to its real shape as each gallery of the stadium was crammed with the huge number of fans and cricket loving people on the stroke of the first Twenty20 match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday.
The day was public holiday and so the avalanche of the spectators was more. Three hours before the onset of the opener of the two-match Twenty20 series, they started thronging around the stadium. At the entrance of the four main gates, they stood in long queues to enter into their respective gallery of the stadium.
Actually, Bangladesh passed a successful year in their one day cricket history as they didn’t concede any series loss after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup. They in whitewashed Pakistan, India, South Africa and Zimbabwe in ODI on the trot and well played in other two formats.
Usually the people of the country are emotion-prone and enthusiastic. They love the cricket from the core of their hearts and keep it away from other issue.  Yesterday, they came to the stadium with zeal in the chance of public holiday. So, the number of spectators was comparatively more than other days of the home series.
Despite being less-price of the ticket than other series, there were huge demand of  tickets for that reason. Many of the crowds left the stadium premises being frustrated. The price of the ticket for the Twenty20 was the minimum of Tk 100 for Eastern gallery and the maximum of Tk 1000 for Grand stand.
Shakil Reza Shakil was one of the disappointed fans amongst numerous crowds. It is mentionable that the waves of crowds outside the stadium were much more than insiders.
“I don’t miss any game of Bangladesh especially at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. I watched the previous matches of the one day series. But today I didn’t collect my tickets as huge number of teenagers like me stood in the long queue at the ticket outlets on Friday though I heard the most of the tickets were sold on Thursday,” said Shakil, who is the first year student of Physics in Mirpur Bangla College.
Due to the pressure of the crowds, the huge tailback fell in roads surrounding the stadium and its adjoining areas. Additional security has been imposed for the smooth movement of the crowds to fend off any untoward situation.
