5 Shibir men held at DU

Police detained five suspected members of Dhaka University (DU) unit Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, from Bijoy Ekattor hall of the university early yesterday morning. The detainees were Imran from Health, a student of 3rd year of Economics department, Hanif, 3rd year student of Public Administration department; Abdur Rahman of Islamic Studies 3rd year, Golam Mostafa of IER and Firoz Ahmed, a 1st year student of Bangla department. Police said they detained the five from the hall around 2am yesterday after being informed by DU authorities. The detainees were held on charged of their alleged involvement with Shibir. Sources said some of hall unit Chhatra League activists detained the five Shibir men and later handed over them to Sahabag police. The acting proctor said, “Suspicious replies from the students compelled police to arrested them.” “We will investigate the matter and necessary actions in this regard would be taken as per directions of the authorities concerned,” said officer-in-charge of Shabagh police station.
