The 67th birth anniversary of popular author, writer, dramatist and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed was observed amid a colourful programme at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur yesterday. The programme mainly featured unveiling a new mural of Humayun Ahmed with participation of several hundred of his fans and well-wishers. Humayun’s wife and actress Meher Afroz Shaon and their two sons Nishad and Ninit unveiled the mural beside an apple tree near the main gate of Nuhash Palli around 9.40 am. Later they along with Huayun’s fans  visited his grave. They placed a floral wreath at the grave and performed prayer there. They also cut a birth day cake in front of the mural. After unveiling the mural, Shaon told journalists, “I want the state take initiative to celebrate Humayun’s birth day nationally.”  “I had a plan to build a mural of Humayun Ahmed. “Sona Rong”, an organisation, took the initiative to build the mural and it has been done so quickly.”
The mural was built from a picture of Humayun Ahmed  taken by renowned photographer Nasir Ali Mamun. She thanked all concerned with the building of the mural. Saiful Islam Bulbul, manager of  Nuhash Palli said, “Staff of Nuhash Palli opened Humayun’s birth day programme by lighting about 800 candles at different places there.”  “We’ve arranged the programme in the same way to celebrate Sir’s (Humayun Ahmed’s) birth anniversary as he would have celebrated it had he been alive,” added Saiful.
Architect Hafiz Uddin Babu who made the mural, said it is the biggest and first mural of any writer of the country. The mural is 10 feet long and 7 feet wide. He added, “I am a fan of Humayun Ahmed like million others. I have taken initiative to build the mural from the reverence to Humayun Ahmed.  I'm proud of myself to have been able to make the mural.” Another artist Shonno Rinko helped Hafiz to build it. “I had a plan to establish the mural of Humayun Ahmed elsewhere. But Meher Afroz Shaon later proposed to build the mural at Nuhash Palli,” Hafiz said. Construction of the mural began in mid-October and it took 25 days to complete the work.  Artist Hafiz Uddin Babu have so far built more than five hundred murals of famous and great persons.
