Ethnic people of Chapainawabganj district will set for a 60-kilometre long march from Nachole to Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office on Sunday demanding separate land commission for the plain land ethnic people. They declared the programme in a press conference yesterday at Chapainawabganj Town Club. President of the Jatiya Adibasi Parishad Rabindranath Saren, presidium member Anil Marandi, organising secretary Bimol Chandra Razoar, office secretary Subhash Chandra Hemrom and other local ethnic leaders were present in the press conference. Rabindranath Saren said the ethnic people of this area are being oppressed by the influential people over dispute of land. They are being victims of torture, murder and rape, he added. The ethnic people have been demanding separate land commission for them over the past 22 years; but no government has paid heed to their demand.
Although Awami League in its election manifesto had declared that if elected they would form separate land commission for them, but still after seven years of their tenure they hardly made any progress in this regard, he alleged.
The ethnic leader said that they would start the long march from Nachole on Sunday at 10 am and proceed to Amnura in Chapainawabganj district and Godagari in Rajshahi district. After a night halt at Rajabari they will resume their march towards the divisional commissioner’s office on Monday. They will hold a street rally at Kasiadanga and in front of the divisional commissioner’s office and also give a memorandum to the prime minister through the divisional commissioner, he said.
