RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has sought all-out cooperation of media both print and electronics to make its next November 14 National vitamin 'A' plus campaign-2015 a total success to prevent all the vitamin A related deficiencies disorders among babies, reports BSS. Terming the campaign as very much significant for the city and the n zation as well Nizam-ul Azim, Mayor-in-Charge of RCC, said media support has become indispensable to make it successful.
"We have clinched the first position in EPI campaign in six consecutive times nationally. Similarly, massive preparations and measures were adopted to make the forthcoming campaign a total success," asserted Azim. He was addressing a press conference today held in the city bhaban conference hall ahead of the campaign. Azim said the national Vitamin 'A' plus campaign will be observed across the country to prevent childhood blindness, reducing child mortality and strengthening immunity.
"We are committed to make the campaign a total success in the metropolis", he said. Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum supplemented the mayor. During her concept paper presentation, Dr Anjuman Ara said the vitamin 'A' plus supplement is helpful for reducing the severity and duration of illnesses associated with pneumonia and diarrhea. She mentioned that vitamin 'A' supplement is also essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of cell function for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction. It's also very important for reduction of the diarhoeal attack and prevention of post-measles blindness.
Some 6,863 children aged six months to 11 months will be given blue-coloured capsule of high powered Vitamin A and 53,275 children aged 12 months to 59 months will be given red-coloured capsule of high-powered Vitamin A in the city comprising 30 wards, she added.
A total of 384 centers including 41mobile ones will keep functioning on the day from 8 am to 8 pm and 1,152 volunteers were already given adequate orientation for the purpose.
Another report adds from Rangpur: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu yesterday asked the media workers for creating public awareness in making the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign- 2015 successful.
He put emphasis on administering every child of under five age group with Vitamin A Plus capsule that helps to increase their disease resistant capacities, ensure normal growth, reduce death risks and prevent night blindness and many other diseases.
The city mayor, also a valiant freedom fighter, made the call while addressing a press conference arranged at his conference room here for making the upcoming National Vitamin A Plus Campaign- 2015 a total success.
Chief Executive Officer of RCC Ruhul Amin Khan presided over the press conference attended by City Councilors, health officials and local journalists from the print, electronic and online media.
