‘No outdoor 31st night, Christmas
celebrations’

The government has decided to regulate Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve celebrations this year to avoid any untoward incident.

The decision was taken at a home ministry meeting yesterday (Thursday), with home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the chair.

After the meeting, Khan said no one would be allowed to celebrate Christmas and the 31st night outdoors. Besides, no one would be allowed to celebrate on rooftops, roads, flyovers, or in public places.

“We have asked law enforcement and intelligence agencies to deploy their forces in front of the 3,500 churches across the country so that the Christian community can celebrate Christmas smoothly. At the same time, we have asked the agencies to shut all bars from December 31 to January 1 and conduct anti-narcotics drives to avoid any untoward incident on those days. We’ve also asked the authorities concerned to ban all types of revelry, such as DJ parties and gatherings at bars and hotels,” he said.
