A round table meeting titled ‘Aparajita – a project on women's political empowerment locally’ was held at BRAC Learning Centre in Rangpur yesterday. Aroma Datta, MP, was chief guest in the programme while Sabina Yasmin Lubna, senior programme officer, SDC, Kawsar Pervin, DD Women Affairs Directorate, Zakia Tabassum Jui, MP, Kumaresh Roy, secretary, JSD, Ziaul Hasan, secretary, Law Affairs, District Awami League, and Sahidul Islam Miju, secretary city BNP, Merina Lovely, staff reporter, Channel-I, were present as special guests.
Advocate Roksana Khondakar, executive director, Khan Foundation, was in chair. Wazed Firoz, Acting ED, delivered welcome speech. Prasanta Chakma, Project Director of Aparajita, HELVETAS, said the project began in the country in 2011. It has been implemented in 519 unions, 44 pourashava and 56 upazilas of 40 districts.
He said third phase work of the project is going on in sixteen districts by the co-operation of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Total 75 representatives of Aparajita and women representatives are playing dynamic role in the country for women empowerment, he added.
