Mymensingh divisional commissioner office has chalked out a day-long programme yesterday with a view to making Mymensingh division free from ‘early marriage’ as soon as possible.

They have taken the initiatives marking the upcoming “Mujib Year” (Mujib Borsho)’ scheduled to be celebrated the round next year, said sources.

The day-long programme included rally, discussion meeting, human chain, collection of mass signature and oath taking.  

The programme was also launched at the same time with district and upazila administrations of Mymensingh division that included Mymensingh, Netrakona, Jamalpur and Sherpur districts.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid Babu inaugurated the programme as chief guest. The state minister also administered the oath taking ceremony and the event was being connected with other districts and 35 upazilas of the division through face-book live.

Marking the day, a colourful procession was brought out in the city. Members of different socio-cultural organisations and students of different educational institutions joined the rally started from city’s Zero point.

Divisional commissioner Khondoker Mustafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Mymensingh Md Mizanur Rahman also spoke on the occasion, among others.
