National Judicial Conference today

The National Judicial Conference will be held today at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre under the title ‘Justice for Peace and Development’. Supreme Court (SC) authorities have already completed all preparation in the meantime. The conference has been divided into two sessions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the gala event in the first session as the chief guest for the first time since the conference’s inception in 2015. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain will preside over this session where Law Minister Anisul Huq and several other ministers and secretaries will be present, SC sources said.

The other session will be held after lunch break where judges of the lower courts will participate. High Court and Appellate Division judges will conduct this session in order to find ways of reducing the backlog of cases, strengthening the judicial administration, bringing the whole judiciary under the digital system and making the judiciary more transparent.

Officials concerned said the participants would discuss the development of the judiciary, possible ways to have a corruption-free judiciary as well as ensuring the smooth functioning of the judiciary.

After the conference, the authorities concerned will inform all ministries and people about the existing problems and prospects of the judiciary, SC sources added. About 2,500 trial court, High Court and Appellate Division judges and other distinguished guests will attend the conference.

All officials of the judiciary will give their opinion at the conference on several issues, especially on the huge number of cases pending before trial courts and higher courts.
