Medical officer jailed for demanding dowry

A court of Joypurhat have sent a doctor to jail in dowry case filed by his wife .

Mohammad Iqbal Bahar of the Jaipurhat Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court gave the order on Thursday afternoon rejecting bail order of Bibhas Kumar Sharma, 33, medical officer of Narail Sadar Hospital.

According to public procecutor , Dr. Chaiti Roy, daughter of Dr. Shanti Prashad Roy of Sabuj Nagar area of Joypurhat town, married to Dr. Bibhash Kumar Sharma, son of Gopal Sharma of Arani master para area of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. Dr. Chaiti Roy is the senior education officer at Joypurhat Civil Surgeon's office.  Shortly after the marriage, Dr Bibhshas Sharma demanded Tk 10 lakh as dowry, and the family of Chaiti expressed inability to pay it. Consequently, Dr Sharma physically and mentally tortured Dr Chaithi.

Missing man’s body found

Body of a bread vendor, who went missing in the Meghna river at around 11.30 pm on Thursday night at Chandpur launch ghat , was recovered yesterday morning

The deceased was identified as Deen Islam, 28, hailed from Tilabari area near the launch ghat in the town.

 Officer-in-charge of River Thana Md Abu Taher Khan, said while a passenger launch was departing from the ghat at 11.30 pm, bread vendor Deen Islam and another bread vendor jumped on the pontoon from the departing launch. But he fell down in the river and went missing.  After frantic search for whole night by the fire rescue team and divers, body of Din Islam was found dead in the morning.

Body of drowned girl recovered

UNB, Sherpur  

A body of a six-year-old girl, who drowned in a pond on Thursday, was recovered at Boroikuchi in Sribardi upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Amena Khatun Anika, daughter of Amir Ali of Charsherpur village in Sadar upazila.

Member of Singabaruna Union Parishad Shafiqul Islam, said Anika along with her mother came to visit her maternal grandfather Abdul Awal's house on Thursday. On Thursday noon, Anika went missing while playing near a pond.

On information, divers from Jamalpur fire brigade conducted a rescue operation and recovered the body of Anika around 10:30 am.
