5th nat’l debate fest begins at RU today

A two-day ‘5th national debate fest’ will begins today (Friday) at Rajshahi University (RU). Total 72 debtors from 24 public and private universities will participate in the programme.  Group Liberal Bangladesh (GOLD), a debating organisation at RU, is organising the programme, its chief coordinator Azaz Ahmed informed these at a press conference held at Sayed Islamil Hossain Siraji Babhan on the campus. At the opening day, RU pro-vice chancellor Prof Ananda Kumar Saha will inaugurate the programme while pro-vice chancellor Prof Chawdhury Md Zakaria will present as chief guest. The concluding session will be held on Saturday at university ‘Mukta Mancha’ where vice-chancellor of Barishal University (BU) Prof Sadequl Arefin Matin will be the chief guest and RU pro-vice chancellor Prof Chawdhury Md Zakaria will be special guest in the programme, he added. Group Liberal Bangladesh (GOLD) started its journey at RU in 2005 with the slogan ‘Ignite yourself with debate.’

EWU gets new VC, pro-VC

Prof MM Shahidul Hassan has been re-appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of East West University (EWU). At the same time, Prof Muhammad Z Mamun, former director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Dhaka University,  has joined as the new Pro- Vice Chancellor of EWU, says a press release.  President Abdul Hamidand also the chancellor of the university approved these appointments. Both of them graduated from the BUET and completed their PhD degree from abroad. Prof Hassan has been teaching for more than four decades and Prof Mamun has been teaching for more than 3 decades. With their appointment, EWU has completed the appointment of all the three positions of Vice-Chancellor, Pro- Vice Chancellor and Treasurer by the President Abdul Hamid.
