Woman killed in road crash

An elderly woman was killed being hit by a covered van in Saheb Bazar area in old part of the city on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Sufia begum, 65, a resident of Wari area in the capital. Abdul Khan, assistant sub-inspector, Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Camp, said the covered van hit Sufia Begum around 10pm. Locals took her to DMCH where doctors declared her dead at 11pm. The body was kept at the hospital morgue, the ASI added.
Rly Service Week begins today

The 8th founding anniversary of the Ministry of Railways and Railway Service Week will be observed from December 4.
The Railway Service Week will begin on December 4 and conclude on December 11, said a press release.
On the occasion of founding anniversary and service week, the Railway Ministry and Bangladesh Railway have adopted some work plans. It includes formation of ten taskforces in coordination with the Railway Ministry and railway officials, monitoring schedules of trains and oversee railway platforms and over bridges, the release added.
On this occasion, medical services will be provided to the passengers at the stations adjacent to the Railway Hospitals.
Four ABT militants remanded

A court here on Monday placed four members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) on a four-day remand each in a case lodged under anti-terror act.
The four accused are- Masum Miah, Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Emran, Rakibul Hasan alias Siam and Monirul Islam alias Faruk Ahammed.
Investigation officer (IO) and Khilkhet Police Station sub-inspector Ripon Kumar produced the four before the court Monday and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand. After hearing the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akter placed them on a four-day remand.
RAB arrested the four from Nikunjo area under Khilkhet Police Station on December 30 and recovered huge jihadi books, leaflets, digital contents and mobile sets from their possessions.
Khulna BSTI files 15 cases

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined different establishments Tk 2, 79,300 along with filing fifteen cases for selling adulterated foods and not using digital weighing machines last month,
Six mobile courts conducted drives in six organisations including departmental store, drinking water factory and a private jute mill in Khulna division, a press release quoted BSTI director Md Abdul Mannan as saying yesterday afternoon. A total of fifteen cases have been filed against shop, factory and mill owners as a court also sentenced a manager of NN Filling Station in Jhenaidah to six month imprisonment, it said.
The anti food adulteration drives will continue, it added.
8 dwelling houses gutted

A total of eight dwelling houses were gutted in a fire that broke out at Zaliaghata village of Banskhali upazila of the district on Monday.
Liton Boisnob, station officer of Banskhali Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a dwelling house in the area around 2.45 am and quickly engulfed the adjacent houses.
Two firefighting units from Banskhali areas rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 6.12 am.
Victim Farid Alam and local fire service official claimed that the fire damaged properties worth about Taka four lakh, Farid added.
