Speakers at a meeting here yesterday unanimously mentioned that creating awareness among the public in general along with other stakeholders is very important for making the road traffic system safe and secured. They observed that many of the road traffic accidents occurred due to violation of traffic rules and lack of fitness certificates and other valid documents of vehicles and of the drivers concerned. They came up with the observation while addressing an awareness raising meeting related to safe road at Godagari Upazila Parishad Hall room in the district.

Local Government Division organised the meeting in association with Japan International Cooperation Agency. Upazila Chairman Jahangir Alam addressed the meeting as chief guest while Upazila Vice-chairmen Abdul Malek and Sufiya Khatun were present as special guests with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shimul Akter in the chair. Traffic Sergeant Muntasir Rahman gave an overview of the Road Transport Act-2018 and its importance in his keynote presentation. He said different motivational and awareness campaigns are being conducted among the transport drivers and workers.

He said no one can drive vehicle without valid documents adding that there is no way but to comply with the new law that hiked the fine significantly. Highest importance should be given on enhancing drivers’ skills and following traffic law for stopping or avoiding road accidents.
