State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan yesterday said most of the provisions of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord have been implemented while the rest will also be implemented gradually. “The implementation of the peace accord is an ongoing process… The government gives priority to the people of the CHT areas and evaluates them. There is no dearth in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sincerity to implement the treaty. She has taken every initiative

to implement the accord,” he said. The state minister was addressing a roundtable discussion titled ‘CHT Peace Accord: Expectation of CHT People, Achievements, Challenges and Responsibility’ organized by Bangla daily the Bhorer Kagoj at the National Press Club in the capital.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr Abdul Mannan presided over the discussion, addressed by Dhaka University (DU) Professor Syed Anwar Hossain, security analyst Major General (Retd) Abdur Rashid, senior journalist Abu Sayeed Khan, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) former president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Secretary of CHT Affairs Ministry Md Mesbahul Islam and former ambassador M Shafiullah as special guests.

Murad said diplomatic prudence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is recognized all over the world.

She is speaking in all international forums, including the United Nations, about repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya people to their homeland in Myanmar with full dignity of citizenship and trying to draw the attention of the world community, he added.
