BGB detains 7 while entering Bangladesh from India

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained seven people while they were entering Bangladesh from India through the Moheshpur border area. A man, woman and four children were detained on Wednesday night while another woman was held on Thursday morning.
Jhenaidah Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-58) Additional Director Lt Col Quamrul Ahsan said the group of six was detained from Pipulbaria village of Kusumpur BOP while a woman was apprehended from the house of Moshiur Rahman in Sundorpur village for illegally entering Bangladesh from India.
All the detainees were handed over to Moheshpur police, he said. After interrogation, it was learnt that they are Bangladeshi citizens. The group of six went to India 10 months ago seeking medical care.
Man to die for killing wife
UNB, Laxmipur
A tribunal yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in Kamalnagar upazila in 2016. The convict is Md Aktar Hossain, son of Bechu Bepari of Char Lorence area in Kamalnagar upazila. According to the case statement, Aktar used to torture his wife Bibi Saju for dowry.
On February 12, 2016, he strangled Saju to death at one stage of altercation over the matter. Victim’s father filed a case with Lamalnagar Police Station on February 14. Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Sirajullah Kutubi handed down the verdict.
9 trucks of Indian betel leaf seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized nine trucks of Indian betel leaf from the Notunhaat area on the Jashore-Benapole Road on Wednesday night.
BGB conducted a drive in the area after being tipped-off that a huge quantity of smuggled Indian betel leaf was being taken to Dhaka. Betel leaf worth Tk 3.42 crore and the trucks were seized, said Jashore BGB 49 Battalion commander Lt Col Md Selim Reza.
He said a case was filed in this regard.
