33 shops gutted in Khulna

At least 33 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out early yesterday at Ferry ghat intersection in the city.
Iqbal Bahar Bulbul, deputy director of fire service, said the fire broke out at around 6 am and engulfed 33 shops mostly of winter cloths. Eight firefighting units from Boyra and Tutpara rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within half an hour, he added. The origin of the fire could not be known yet.
‘India extends all-out supports during Liberation War’

Barishal City Corporation Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah said India extended all-out supports to Bangladesh during the War of Liberation in 1971.
The people of the country will remember the friendly relation between the two countries forever, he said.
“Both Bangladesh-India governments are working to maintain friendly relation for further development of the two countries,” the BCC mayor made the comment while addressing an inaugural ceremony of Indian Visa processing Centre at Kasimpur in the city as the chief guest. Panel mayor of the City Corporation Advocate Rafikul Islam Khokon and Principal of Barishal Government BM College Professor M Shafiqur Rahman Sikder were present the function, among others.
Engineer Abu Bakar’s 13th death anniversary today

The 13th death anniversary of Abu Bakar Siddique, former director (Generation Diesel) of Bangladesh Power Development Board and father of former Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, will be observed today.
A doa mahfil will be held at Baitul Aqsa Jame Masjid of Dhanmondi after Maghrib prayers on the occasion.
His family members have requested all to pray for the salvation of his departed soul. AB Siddique passed away on November 27, 2006 at his Dhanmondi residence following a massive cardiac attack.
