Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said they will take the next steps for all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad after getting the scan report of his injury.
Mahmudullah received grade-one hamstring injury during the second innings of the historic pink-ball Test against India at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 23.
He sustained injury while tried to take a single while he was on 39. Therefore, he came out of the field hobbling.
“Mahmudullah’s injury is grade-one hamstring injury. He did scan on Monday but we’re yet to get its report,” said Dr Debashis.
“Here important matter is that we give a timeframe of seven days in case of low intensity of hamstring for taking rest and doing rehab. There is a possibility of recurring injury if he returns to games not being fit fully. If the same injury is happened again, it takes more time to be healed,” Chowdhury told media at his BCB office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“Our main task is to stop the second time injury because if he gets second time injury at the same place, it’ll take double times. It takes more than a month. And if he receives injury third time, he has the possibility of missing the full season,” he added.
Liton Kumar Das was retired hurt after taking a blow to his helmet coupled with and Naeem Hasan,. Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam have replaced Liton and Neem as concussion substitutes.
Dr Debashis said they will review both Liton and Naeem after their return to the country.
“They were sent to doctors in Kolkata after being taken blow to their helmet. Therefore, they did scan at local hospital there. There is nothing bad in their scan reports. We’re expecting their conditions are not so serious,” he said of Liton and Naeem’s injury.
“But as per the rules, they have to stay in rest completely for the next two days. There are some guidelines of ICC regarding head-struck injury. They can do their normal work two days after their injuries. They are out of danger after being seen their reports. We’ll review them after returning to the country,” he added.
When asked about Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who injured his back during his batting practice, Debashis said, “Mashrafe is trying to run his own rehab. Today he has done physiotherapy and gym session. But we seek more times from him to do his rehab but he can’t give his time on rehab. His pain has been reduced but it is not healed fully. If he could manage to give some more time out of his business, he would be healed quickly.”
Aminul Islam Biplob and Shofiqul Islam missed out the looming South Asian Games due to injury.
“Our men’s team is soon going to SA Games. There are some injury concerns in the squad. Biplob and Shofiqul are not going there because their injuries didn’t heal completely,” he said of Biplob and Shofiqul.
He said they decided to keep injured Rumana Ahmed under physio and trainer for the next two months.
“Women’s team captain Rumana Ahmed has been suffering injury on his knee for the last five-six months. We’re trying to manage her. She has a problem in tendon. A few months is needed in case of such problem. The problem is that we can’t her in straight rest. She had to take part in some important tournaments. We’ve decided not to allow her to take part in any tournament ahead of the World Cup,” he said of Rumana Ahmed.
