Four people were sentenced to death while one got life term imprisonment for murder in Laxmipur and Chuadanga districts.
A UNB report says: A court yesterday sentenced four people to death for killing a woman in 2016.
The condemned convicts are Sharmin Akter, Sharmin’s friend Jamal, Nazim and Jashim of Dharmapur village in Sadar upaizla. All of them were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Jakera Begum, mother-in-law of Sharmin, was strangulated to death by the convicts following the extramarital relation between Sharmin and Jamal at Dharmapur village in Sadar upazila on July 14, 2016.
Our Chuadanga correspondent adds: A Chuadanga court on Monday awarded a man to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2014.
According to the prosecution, as convict Alam was taking drug in broad daylight his younger brother Shahin tried to stop him. Later on April 4, 2014 when Alam was returning home, he found Shahin in front of a tea stall at the village and beat him to death. The body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
