On his debut series as captain, Mominul Haque went through a horrendous experience as he became the second Bangladesh captain to get a pair in a Test. That pair to came in Bangladesh’s maiden day-night Test, which they played against India in Kolkata. In doing so, Mominul joined Bangladesh’s one of the most successful captain Habibul Bashar Sumon in bagging pair. Bashar who also witnessed Mominul’s pair from the ground, got his pair against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2004.
Overall Mominul is the 24th captain in the world, and the first captain in day-night Test to experience that embarrassing record. While he edged one to Rohit Sharma at first slip off an Umesh Yadav delivery in the first innings, he almost similar fashion edged a moving delivery of Ishant Sharma in the second innings to wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.
In the first Test in Indore, he also didn’t fare well even though got the start in first innings. He scored 37 before being out for 7 in the second innings in Indore. On his captaincy debut series, he scored just 44 in four innings.
