Aspirants lobbying for party nomination

Aspirants seeking to participate in municipal polls in Patuakhali district later this year have started lobbying for party nomination.
The election will be held for Kuakata and Kalapara municipalities.
The hopefuls for mayoral and councilor posts in Kuakata tourist municipality have started campaigning to drum up support in their favour by distributing leaflets, hanging banners and putting up posters.
Some candidates are giving charity, offering donations and spending money to woo voters.
 Ruling Awami League is delaying to name its candidates for the reason of internal feud. While BNP insiders say their party might not participate in the election if the government goes ahead with holding one like the upazila polls.
Kalapara Upazila Election Officer Syed Abu Bakar Siddique said the election to Kuakata municipality will be held in December. All related works, including new voter list, have already been completed, he said.
According to AL sources, it has five mayoral aspirants.
 They are AL Kuakata municipality unit president Abdul Barek Molla, secretary Manir Ahmed Bhuiyan, join-secretary MA Bari Azad, organising secretary Ananto Mukharjee and Awami Juba League Kuakata unit president Sagor Molla.
On the other hand, BNP Kuakata municipality unit convener Abdul Aziz Musulli, Jatiya Party (Ershad) Kuakata municipality unit president Anwar Hossain Howlader, Kuakata hotel-motel owners’ association secretary Motaleb Talukder and independent representative Mawlana Mainul Islam have already started campaigning through holding private meetings.
Sources said both the AL and BNP have been plagued by internal party feud.
The conflict has  clearly surfaced in the ruling party. While BNP is not taking part in political activities in Kuakata as many party activists with criminal cases on their shoulder have gone into hiding.
Many of the party leaders feel insecure in a vengeance political atmosphere. BNP Kalapara upazila unit president ABM Mosharef Hossain and other party activists came under attack by ruling party cadres while they were taking part in a views exchange meeting with local journalists at Kuakata press club recently.
