Primary teacher ‘beaten to death’ over land feud

UNB, Pabna

A primary school headmaster was reportedly beaten to death over land dispute in Atghoria upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali, 45, son of Abdul Pramanik of Moheshpur village.

He was the headmaster of Fulbaria Primary School and was serving as the general secretary of the upazila primary teachers' council. Hossain, son of the deceased, said his father had an altercation with the neighbours over a previous land feud at 7am. "At one stage, Afzal (one of the neighbours) beat my father indiscriminately with a stick. My father died on the spot," he said.

Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Atghoria Police Station, said a police team had been sent to the spot while the details will be known after investigation. The body was sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

Five held over easy-bike driver killing in Naogaon

UNB, Naogaon

Police on Thursday arrested five people in connection with a case filed over the killing of an easy-bike driver in Sadar upazila.

The arrestees are Jewel alias Jaher Ali, 45, son of Shukur Ali, Saiful Islam, 20, Ratan Ali, 19, Suruj Mia, 18, Rashid, 18. All of them are from Sadar upazila.

Abdul Mannan Mia, Naogaon police superintendent, at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon said police made the arrest from different spots of the town for their alleged involvement in the killing of easy-bike driver Bhojendra Nath. They used to hijack easy-bikes, the SP added.

On November 17, police recovered the body of Bhojendra, 26, from Hasaigari area. His father filed a murder case later.
