1 held with 13,420 yaba tablets

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug trader with 13,420 pieces of yaba tablets from the city’s Fisherighat area on Tuesday. The arrested man was identified as Mohammad Rafique, 20, a truck driver and son of Abu Bakar Siddique hailed from Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district. Being informed, a team of the elite force intercepted a Chattogram-bound mini truck in the area at about 2 am and arrested the drug trader with the yaba tablets, said RAB Assistant Superintendent of Police Mashakur Rahman. A case was filed in this connection.
Two killed in road accident

Two people were killed in a road accident in Korpai area under Burichang upazila of the district early yesterday. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, police said. Mainamati Highway police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam said the accident occurred on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at about 5:15 am when a fish-laden Dhaka-bound truck fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering, killing two people on the spot. Police recovered the bodies from the spot, the SI added.
ICRC head meets Speaker

Head of Delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pierre Dokhob paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office yesterday, a press release said. During the meeting the speaker said, “The Red Cross has a long term relation with Bangladesh and it has been working here since the liberation war. It has also been involved in disaster management.” She hoped that the organization will work for the people in disaster management in the future too. Pierre Dokob said, “Bangladesh is now a role model in disaster management. The participation of grassroots people plays an important role in dealing with natural and man-made disasters.” Dokhob expressed a desire to organise a workshop on disaster management with young parliamentarians. During the meeting, he also discussed with the speaker about the ‘Wheelchair Basketball Tournament’ which will be held next December in Dhaka for disabled people, the release added.
