The word ‘Banglawash’ is undoubtedly popular amongst the Bangladeshi people. The word is frequently used when Bangladesh sweeps any series by clean margin against any nation. But when the word has been popular amongst the mass people, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza at least seems to dislike the ‘adjective.’

So when a journalist asked him about the possible ‘whitewash’ over Zimbabwe during the yesterday’s press conference, he thanked him using the word ‘whitewash’ instead of ‘Banglawash.’
“Thank you for using whitewash and not Banglawash. Everyone is expecting a whitewash obviously. But it won’t be right to talk about this amongst our players,” he said.
The word ‘Banglawash’ came into the fore after Bangladesh won the five-match ODI series against New Zealand by 4-0 at home in 2010. Since one match was rained out, it was not possible to term it as traditional ‘whitewash.’ So a Bangladeshi commentator Atahar Ali Khan first used the term and it instantly created frenzy.
