Khulna hospital catches fire
KHULNA: A fire broke out at a hospital in Sonadanga area of the city yesterday morning. Tareque, assistant director of Khulna fire service, said the fire erupted at the laboratory of ‘Fortis’, a local hospital, in the area around 10.30am. On information, three fire fighting units from Khulna fire service rushed to the spot and started trying to douse the fire. Fire service sources said the origin of the fire and the extent of the loss caused by the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Two drugstores fined in Sylhet
SYLHET: A mobile court fined two drugstores Tk 40,000 for selling expired and unregistered drugs in Chauhatta area of the city on Thursday. A mobile court, led by executive magistrate Hussain Mohammad Hye Joki, conducted a raid at Orin Pharmacy and seized expired drugs worth Tk 50,000 in the afternoon. They court also fined the drugstore Tk 20,000 for selling expired drugs. In another drive, the same mobile court seized unregistered medicine worth Tk one lakh from Matin Traders and fined the drugstore Tk20,000. Director of the district drug administration Romel Mallik was also present.
Seminar on tourism destination
A seminar titled ‘Tourism Destination Branding: A study on Sylhet’ was held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on thursday. The seminar was organised by Department of Business Administration at academic Building ‘E’. The Masters of Philosophy (Mphil) Fellow students of the department, Bilkis Akter, presented the key notes paper at the seminar.
Head of the department and also dean of school of Management and Business Administration Nazrul Islam presided over the programme, where Belayet Hossain of Department of Marketing of Chittagong University was present.
