SYLHET: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith yesterday expressed satisfaction at the recovery of large parts of Jallar Khal (Canal)that runs through the city and expressed the hope that rest of the canal would be recovered soon, reports BSS. The minister said once the entire recovery process was completed, the canal would be connected to the stream at Zindabazar and the Balaram canal at Taltala. He also asked the local authorities to fence off the entire canal and plan a walkway and lake at a suitable location. Muhith also expressed the desire that all water bodies of Sylhet should be recovered and freed from illegal squatters. “Only then the town will regain its lost beauty and become livable,” the minister said. During the visit, the finance minister was accompanied by Sylhet Sadar Upazila chairman, Alhaj Ashfaq Ahmed, acting chief engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, Noor Azizur Rahman, its executive engineer, Abdul Malek, assistant engineer of the corporation, Aurobindo Dev, and other officials and local elites.
