A woman died on Wednesday night from wounds suffered at the hands of her dowry monger husband at Ghodkhali village in Jhikorgacha upazila of the district.  The victim has been identified as Ashalata, 32, daughter of Moslem uddin of Churamonkati village in Jessore sadar. According to family sources, on 26 October, husband Hossain Ali  put pressure on Ashalata to bring Tk 1.5 lakh  from her father. When she refused to comply with his demand, he beat his wife severely leaving her critically injured. She was admitted to Jessore Medical Collage Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated. On October 29, she was sent back home as her condition remained unchanged. On Wednesday night, her condition deteriorated again and she died on way to hospital. Ashalata’s brother claimed that his sister died due to torture by her husband. Police said several marks of injuries were found on her body. The real cause of the death can be known after receiving the post mortem report, polices said.
