A total of 17 shops were gutted in Tangail and Bhola districts yesterday and on Wednesday night. In Tangail, a devastating fire gutted 11 shops in Dhanbari municipality area on Wednesday night. SK Tuhin, station commander of Madhupur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire was originated form electric short circuit in a shop at Dhanbari Bus Station at 2am on Wednesday night. Soon it engulfed the neighbouring shops. Fire destroyed one confectionary shop, one telecom shop, two hardware and paint shops, two corrugated tin shops, one seed store, one cycle mart, and three fruits shops. Two units of Fire fighters from Madhupur and one unit from Sarisabari rushed to the spot and extinguished fire after frantic efforts of two hours. Goods and the shops have been burnt to ashes. Upazila chairman of Dhanbari Prof. Meer Farook Ahmed Farid, acting UNO Tofazzol Hossain and Officer In-Charge of Dhanbari PS Mojibor Rahman visited the spot on Thursday morning. In Bhola, properties worth several lakhs of taka were damaged in a fire that broke out at the High School Market in Lalmohon sadar yesterday. Sources said that the fire originated from electric short circuit in shop and spread to other shops in the market. At least six shops, including My TV showroom, two grocery shops and two furniture shops, were damaged. Fire fighting machines from Lalmohon and Borhan Uddin upazila rushed to the spot and control the fire.
