Local leaders of major political parties seeking to contest in the coming municipal election, due in December, have started campaigning to woo voters. The polls will be held in four pourashavas -- Bhola sadar , Borhan Uddin, Lalmohon and Charfassion- of Bhola district. The incumbent mayors are all from Awami league. The last election to the four pourashavas was held in the year 2011. Candidates for mayoral and councilor posts in some pourashavas have already been named by the ruling party after the government announced holding of the election. The possible three mayoral candidates are Moniruzzaman Monir for Bhola sadar, Rafiqul Islam for Borhan uddin and Imdadul Hoque Tuhin for Lalmohon pourashavas.
They are all incumbents, but some other leaders are also lobbying for nominations, party insiders said. However, the underlining intra-party conflicts in Awami League and BNP, the two big political parties, might put the leaderships in a difficult situation to select candidates. In Bhola sadar pourashava, Awami league has already selected nine councilor candidates. They are Mojurul Alam, Ibrahim Khan, Salauddin Linkon, Shawkat Hossain, Erfanur Rahman, Omor Faroque, Shah Alam, Atiqur Rahman and Mainul Islam. Abdul Momin Tulu District unit secretary of Awami league has confirmed the selection. While contacted Faroque Mia, Secretary of BNP Bhola district unit, said they are yet to get any decision of party high command on participation in next pourashava polls. However, party insiders said the probable BNP mayoral candidates for Bhola pourashava are party district president Golam Nobi Alamgir, party district secretary Faroque Mia, district joint secretary Harunur Rashid Trumen and district vice president Aminul Islam Khan. Probable councilor candidates of BNP are Robin Chawdhury, Momin uddin, Shawpon, Kobir Hossain, Bashir Howlader, Abdur Rob, Belal Uddin, Nasir uddin Helal and Gopran Mia.
