Two held with foreign
pistols at Jatrabari

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged criminals with two foreign made pistols and 26 rounds of bullet from Chapra Mosque lane area under Jatrabari Police Station on Tuesday night.
Being tipped-off, a squad of RAB-10 conducted a raid at Chapra Mosque lane at 9 pm and arrested fugitive accused Liton alias Shooter Liton, 32, and seized a foreign made pistol and two rounds of bullet, Deputy Commander of RAB-10 Major Md Ashraful Haque said. He said on primary information gleaned from Shooter Liton, the elite anti-crime force conducted another operation at midnight at the same area and arrested his close associate Lara, 28, along with a pistol and 24 rounds of bullet from his possession.
Schoolboy stabbed dead, 3 injured in city

A school boy was stabbed to death and three others were injured by miscreants in city’s Uttarkhan area on Tuesday night. The victim was Riyad, 14, an eight-grade student of the Anwara Model Trust School in the city.
The injured were victim’s brothers — Shamim, 27 and Rizon — and Swapon, 22, an attacker and also paternal cousin of Riyad, Uttarkhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Helal Uddin saidon Tuesday. He said a group of boys including Swapon and his accomplices stabbed Riyad centering a family feud at Balur Math in city’s Uttarkhan around 11 pm on Monday.
They were admitted to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi.
15 slum houses gutted in Ctg

A total of 15 slum houses were gutted in a fire that broke out in a slum at Mohammadpur under Panchliash thana in the city on Tuesday morning.
Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram, said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a slum house in the area around 5.15 am and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses.
Six firefighting units from Chandanpura, Bayezid and Kalurghat areas rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 7 am.
AL leader Abul Kalam dies
BSS, Dhaka
Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Awami League (AL) General Secretary and former Assistant Teacher of Shariatpur Palong High School Abul Kalam died at a city hospital yesterday.
He was 67, family sources said. He is survived by wife, a son and three daughters.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her profound sorrow at the death of Abul Kalam. In a condolence message, she prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family. In separate messages, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Shariatpur-3 constituency lawmaker Iqbal Hossain Apu also expressed deep shock at his death.
60kg hilsa seized in Barishal

Conducting drives at different parts of Barishal and Patuakhli districts, members of Bangladesh Navy have seized 60 kilograms of hilsa and current nets.
The Naval ship Teesta conducted drives on 13-14 October in Laharhat, Patarhat, Sripur, Veduria, Ulaniya, Babuganj, Hijla, Mehendiganj and Vashanpur upazila of Barisal district and seized 60kg of hilsa fish and 3.51 lakh meter of current net, said a press release on Tuesday.
The Naval ship LCVP-011 also conducted drives in Rangabali, Dhankhali, Panpotti, Patua upazila of Patuakhali district and seized 50,000 meters of current net.
