Today, as part of ongoing 10-day ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival’, Drishtipat Natyadal will stage its acclaimed play ‘Raja Himadri’ at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in the capital Baily Road area.
Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor has adapted and directed the play from the Sophocles’ classic ‘Oedipus’. The director converted the characters, place and the plot of the Greek tragedy to give it a sub-continental touch suitable for the contemporary local audience. The storyline, however, remains the same.
Sophocles is one of three ancient Greek tragedians whose plays have survived. The most famous tragedies of Sophocles feature Oedipus.
The cast of the play includes Khandaker Tazmi Noor, Marjana Borsha, Abdul Halim Aziz, Jahangir Kabir Bokul and Sreya Khandaker, among others.
In addition, three mores plays will be staged at three different venues of Shilpakala Academy--National Theatre Hall, Studio Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall this evening as part of the festival. All the plays will be staged at 7pm.
