Child drowns while plucking water lilly in Cumilla

A madrasa student drowned while plucking water lilly at a canal at Homna here on Saturday.

Noyon Moni,7, was the son of Johor Mia of village Dorichor under Ghagutia union of the upazila, and student of Moktob department of Dorichor Madrasa.

Ohed Murad, SI of Homna police station, said that while playing with tier the child came to the nearby Noagaon-Kuraliakandi new road.

Later on, while plucking water lilly in the roadside canal, he drowned in the water body.

Failing to rescue him, his friends informed about the incident to his house and then the guardians after conducting search found Moni’s body from under water.

An unnatural death case has been lodged with police station in this connection.

3 youths arrested in Rajshahi

Police arrested three youths on charge of their alleged involvement in social crimes from Gaonpara village under Puthiya Upazila of the district yesterday.

The arrested persons were identified as Rakibul Hassan alias Rockey, 18, son of Ayub Ali of Palopara village, Aminul Islam alias Tonmoy, 19, son of Sohrab Ali of Baroipara village and Hasibul Hassan, 18, son of Sirajul Islam of Sardarpara village under the same upazila.

Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah revealed this while addressing a press-briefing at his office conference hall here yesterday. He said all the three arrested persons were active members of a criminal gang who were engaged in various social crimes for long.

“We are trying to bring all other members of the gang to book within the shortest possible time,” he said.
