Surpassing the boundary of the country, cricketer-turned coach Aftab Ahmed will now be seen in foreign league. Aftab will go for coaching to Dubai where the ensuing third edition of the T10 Cricket League will be staged in November.
There will be a team from Bangladesh will participate in the tournament whose name will be 'Bengal Tigers'. Former director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir is in the joint ownership of the team, where Aftab will play the main role of the team as the head coach.
The players’ draft of the T10 League will be held in Dubai on October 16. Each team could sign 14 players, two of whom is compulsory to pick from United Arab Emirates (UAE), the hosts of the tournament. They have to pick three players from A and B categories, three from C and Emerging categories, while one from associates category. It is possible to rope in any player of the players' draft. As a result, the tournament might be paved the way of creating chances for the young and talented cricketers of Bangladesh through the Bengal Tigers.
The six-team tournament is scheduled to roll onto the ground on November 24. Despite having unparallel batting talent, Aftab didn't sustain in international cricket not to keep his fitness for the longer period. For this reason, his potential international career has been ended before many cricketers of his contemporary period. He started coaching to pathom his limitations putting a full stop on his playing career. He was the head coach of Legends of Rupganj for the last time under whom Legends missed to clinch trophy for a while.
Before that, he was assistant coach of Mohammedan Sporting Club for the two seasons. Aftab will shoulder the responsibility of the head coach for Chattogram Division in the ensuing National Cricket League (NCL) which is slated to get underway on October 10. Aftab confirmed the news to The Independent over mobile phone, saying that it is a great opportunity for him.
“You know that Yeasir Chowdhury, a resident of Chattogram and owner of SMC Group, bought the team of Bengal Tigers in T10. Basically he offered me for the stint,” said Aftab Ahmed.
“It is a great opportunity for me. They are hiring the team management from Bangladesh to promote the Bangladeshi immigrants in UAE,” Aftab told this reporter.
