Police arrested two persons, including a caretaker of a hotel, for two alleged incidents of rate of two girls in Jashore and St Martin’s Island yesterday and on Saturday. In the third incident, a teenage girl was allegedly raped by the son of a union parishad member in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore. In Benapole, police yesterday arrested a man for allegedly raping an eighth grader at Bhaberber village under Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Saturday night.

Sangram Hossain, 25, was arrested from Kagojpukur village. Police and locals said Sangram’s sister Mukta Khatun took the victim to a room where he had been staying and locked it from outside. Sangram raped the girl and fled after people learned about the incident. Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Beanpole Port Police Station, said the victim’s father filed a case against Sangram and two others on Saturday night.

“Sangram was a member of Chhatra League’s Benapole Municipality unit,” he said. The victim was sent to Jashore General Hospital for test. “We’re trying to arrest the other accused,” the police officer said. Meanwhile in Cox’s Bazar, police on Saturday arrested the caretaker of a residential hotel for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in St Martin’s Island. The arrestee is Imran Hossain, 50, son of Shafiqul Islam of Laxmipur district and the caretaker of Fantasy Hotel in the island.

Azmir Elahi, in-charge of St Martin’s Police Outpost, said they arrested Imran from the hotel around 8pm. St Martin’s Union Parishad chairman Nur Ahmad said Imran took the girl inside his hotel and violated her there on Friday afternoon. Later, police along with locals rescued the victim from the hotel and arrested Imran from the spot.

Victim’s uncle Abul Quasem said his niece went to a market to buy betel leaf around 5pm but did not return home. Later, she was found at Imran’s room at the hotel.

In another incident, a teenage girl has allegedly been raped by the son of a union parishad member in Chalishia union of Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore.

The accused was identified as Sabbir Ahmed, 20, son of Md Ali Begh alias Sona, a member of Chalishia union parishad.

Locals said Sabbir made the girl, a Class-VII student, fall in love trap nearly a year ago.

On Thursday, he took the girl to his cousin’s house at Chalishia village with the help of his two friends, made her unconscious feeding her with food laced with sedatives and violated her. The victim’s father filed a case with Abhaynagar Police Station in this regard.

The victim has been sent to Sadar Hospital for medical test, said Inspector Golam Kabir of Abhaynagar Police Station.

Sabbir has been on the run, he said.
