Jatiya Oikyafront, wherein leading political party BNP is a key partner, will observe its first founding anniversary on October 13. The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting of the steering committee of the opposition alliance at its supremo Dr Kamal Hossain’s chamber in the capital’s Motijheel. Briefing the reporters, President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), which is also a component of Oikyafront, Abdur Rab said that the founding anniversary programme would be held at the Jatiya Press Club with Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain in the chair.

Starting at 3:00pm, the anniversary programme will be attended by the central leaders of the alliance partners, he informed. “We will determine our next course of action…The emerging situation cannot be tackled without resignation of this ‘gambling’ government and formation of a national government,” he observed.

He also said the people of this country have become frustrated over the government’s functioning and they have got ready to take to the streets.

Replying to a question, he posed as to how Samrat went to the bordering area of Chauddogram in Comilla evading the surveillance of the law-enforcers.Presided over by Dr Kamal Hossain, the Oikyafront meeting was attended, among others, by ASM Abdur Rab, Tania Rab, Abdul Malek Ratan, Abu Sayed, Subrata Chowdhury, Jaglul Haider Afrik, Shah Ahmed Badal and Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury.

The Jatiya Oikyafront was formed on October 13 last year months ahead of the December 30 general elections comprising five political parties named BNP, Gonoforum, JSD, Krishak Sramik Janata League and Nagorik Oikya.

Of the Oikyafront components, KIader Siddiqi-led Krishak Sramik Janata League left the alliance immediate after the parliamentary polls.
