JU protestors continue strike

A faction of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) continued their strike for the second consecutive day yesterday demanding resignation of university vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam for her alleged involvement in corruption. The protesters under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar against corruption’ besieged the administrative buildings of the university around 8am that continued till 4 pm. Around 8am, they locked all main gates of the administrative buildings of the university and took position there.

They also brought out protest procession chanting slogan against JU VC Prof Farzana Islam that paraded different streets on the campus. The demonstrating students and teachers postponed the movement due to ‘Puja Vacation’ that will begin on Sunday that will continue till October 14.

Meanwhile, they announced new programme after the ‘Puja Vacation’ including press meet, demonstration, public march and gatherings.   Besides, they have decided to send a complaint letter to the Chancellor (President Abdul Hamid) against the Vice-Chancellor for her corruption

Due to the strike, all administrative activities were in dead lock and classes and regular examinations in most of the departments were suspended. Meanwhile, VC-backed teachers’ platform ‘Bangabandhu Shikkhak Parishad’ yesterday a mass-contact programme stating that the allegations of corruption brought against the VC are false and motivated.
