Wrongdoers’ list now in
PM’s hands, says Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has a list of 'infiltrators and wrongdoers’ in the Awami League. "The Prime Minister has a list of leaders and activists of those involved in various misdeeds across the country and the list has been sent to the divisional level," he said. Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League, said the Prime Minister has instructed him to ensure that none of the listed individuals has a place in the party. Asked about the ongoing drive, he said, “The drive will continue and all the corrupt will be brought under it. Wait to receive more information.”

The minister came up with these while talking to the journalists at the Secretariat.

On the issue of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, he said the physicians of Khaleda Zia are not saying what the party leaders are saying about her health.

He suggested waiting for the report of Khaleda Zia’s doctors before drawing any conclusion. Quader also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been informed about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition. “She (PM) didn’t give any message in this regard,” he said.

The Awami League said BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid met him on Wednesday and informed him about his party chief’s illness. “He requested me to convey the information to the Prime Minister and I did so,” the minister said.

BNP MP Harun met Khaleda at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Tuesday evening and said she needs better treatment immediately at a specialised hospital abroad for the physical problems she is facing now.

He said the former Prime Minister, who has been in jail since February last year for corruption, was willing to go abroad for treatment if she is granted bail.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday put Selim Prodhan, the alleged online casino kingpin, and his two associates on four-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order after the police produced him and two of his associates before the court with seven-day remand pleas for each of them in the case filed with the Gulshan police station.

The other accused are Selim’s assistant Md Akhtaruzzaman and employee Md Roman. Gulshan police station officer-in-charge (operation), Md Aminul Islam, also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, produced them before the court with remand pleas in the morning.

Selim was arrested from a Bangkok-bound Thai Airways flight at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

Later, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided his office-cum-residence in Gulshan and arrested Selim’s associates Aktaruzzaman, Roman, and Masum.

The elite force seized 48 bottles of foreign liquor, Tk. 2,905,000 in local currency, currencies of 23 countries worth around Tk. 7,763,023, 12 passports, 32 cheques of 23 banks for Tk. 8 crore, one large server used in game operating, four laptops and two pieces of deer hide.

On Tuesday, Selim and the trio were jailed for six months under the Wildlife Conservation Act by a mobile court.

Selim is chairman of the Prodhan Group, which owns a company called P24 Gaming that reportedly operates online gambling in the country.

Another company of the group, Japan Bangladesh Security Printing and Papers, is registered with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Other organisations owned by Selim include several spas and beauty salons and a law firm.
