Sunnydale, Viqarunnisa retain handball titles

Sunnydale  and Viqarunnisa Noon School and College retained the boys and girls division titles of Polar Ice Cream 26th School Handball tournament winning their respective finals yesterday at Shaheed Captain M Monsur Ali Handball Stadium in the capital.

In the day’s boys’ section final, Sunnydale beat Residential Model School and College by 28-19 goals after leading the first half by 24-6 goals. Irfan Zayed netted eight goals for Sunnydale, while Irfan Hossain of Residential Model produced half a dozen goals.

Viqarunnisa Noon School and College defeated Sunnydale by 9-4 goals after dominating the first half by 5-1 goals in the girls’ section final. Ayesha fired four goals for Viqarunnisa as Samaha netted thrice for Sunnydale.

Viqarunnisa won the championship crown five times in a row and in total they bagged the title for 17 times. On the other hand Sunnydale pocketed the boys title for three successive years.  

Meanwhile, in the boys’ section place-deciding match, St Gregory’s finished third  beating Shaheed Police Smriti College by 21-14 goals after the first half was locked by 12-12 goals.

On the other hand, Kadamtola Purbo Bashabo School and College finished third in the girl’s section place-deciding match outclassing Scholastica (Uttara) by 9-6 goals after dominating the first half was locked by 4-4 goals.

Irfan Jayed of Sunnydale and Fahmida Halim Lamia of Viqarunnisa were named the best players of the tournament.

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) chairman Dr Sultan Ahmed was the chief guest in the finals and distributed the prizes among the winners.

Dhaka Ice Cream Industries Limited chief executive officer Shah Masud Emam was present as the special guest. Bangladesh Handball Federation president Nurul Fazal Bulbul presided over the closing ceremony.
