Owners claim loss of Tk 100 crore

Business owners claimed that they have lost more than Tk 100 crore in the massive fire that swept through the two floors of a six-storey factory of Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd, a sister concern of MyOne Electronics, in Gazipur’s Dheerashrom area on Friday morning.

MyOne Electronics and Minister Hi-Tech Park Limited Chairman MA Razzak, also a director of FBCCI, said valuables, including LED television, home appliance and machineries, were burnt into ashes in the fire.

The authority declared a three-day holiday in the factory over the incident. He claimed this at a press conference held on the factory premises at Dheerashrom area of the city yesterday morning.  Director of the factory (operation) Golam Mostafa Khan, director (finance) Mohammed Mozibur Rahman, general manager of factory (operation) engineer Monirul Hasan Shwopon, head of brand and media KMG Kibria were present at the press conference.

MA Razzak Khan said primarily they suspected that the fire might be originated from an electric short circuit on the floor. They formed a probe committee in this regard with factory officials. Besides, Gazipur District Administration also formed another six-member committee to investigate the incident. The exact cause of the fire will be known after investigation. He said that the factory was closed on Friday. The fire was broke out on the 5th floor of the factory around 5am.

Total 16 firefighting units from Joydebpur, Tongi and Uttara rushed to the spot and doused the fire with frantic efforts. Finished products kept on 5th floor and on rooftop were gutted. The building was also damaged.

He claimed that fire extinguishing equipment were available in the factory building, including fire safety. He sought the cooperation of all, including Prime Minister, to overcome the loss. The factory has insurance Tk 123 crore. He also sought assistance from insurance companies in this regard. “With the help of everyone, we will be able to turn around again”, he added.
