A woman died of dengue at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday. The deceased was identified as Raushan Ara, 55, a resident of Thakur Daulatput village in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district. She died of dengue at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) yesterday morning. She was diagnosed with dengue on September 8 and was admitted to the RMCH on September 10.

As her condition deteriorated, Raushan was shifted to the hospital’s ICU on September 12, where she breathed her last while undergoing treatment, said Dr Saiful Islam Ferdous, deputy director, RMCH.

Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients admitted to different hospitals across the country has shown a downward trend. A total of 527 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, while the number of admissions on Friday was 673.

Among them, 165 were admitted to various hospitals in Dhaka, while the remaining 371 people

to hospitals outside the capital city.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room, in a press release issued on Saturday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals across the country was 2,996.  

In all, 1,285 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in the capital with the remaining 1,711 patients undergoing treatment outside the capital. As of today, the number of recorded dengue patients this year has hit 80,567. Among them, at least 52,636 were hospitalised in August alone, the data showed. A total of 77,368 patients have already been released from hospitals following their recovery.

About 96 per cent of the dengue patients, admitted to different hospitals across the country, were released from hospitals after treatment, according to health officials.

The DGHS has so far analysed 96 out of 192 cases of death and confirmed 57 deaths to have been caused by the mosquito-borne disease.
