Many socio-cultural, professional and political organisations yesterday arranged dozens of human chains and rallies demanding continuation of candidature of Awami League (AL)-nominated candidate Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu for Rangpur-3 by-poll.

The events were arranged by over 30 organisations on the spreading news that AL might withdraw its candidature supporting candidate of another party to refrain from contesting the by-poll in Rangpur-3 parliamentary constituency slated for October 5 next.

Thousands of common people, students of different educational institutions, leaders, workers and activists of different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations gathered on Press Club premises and other places of the parliamentary constituency.

At the programmes on Press Club premises, President of Joy Bangla Sangskritik Gosthi Tauhidur Rahman, General Secretary of Rangpur Lalon Academy Shahidul Islam Hira, President of Uttaron Samajik-Sangskritik  Sangathan Ashfaq Chowdhury and General Secretary of Mouchak Paribar Rezaul Karim Jiban addressed the event.
