Dhaka Dynamites desire to be part of BPL

No franchisee will remain in the ensuing edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which will be hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) alone. The BCB, meanwhile, announced it will orgainse the upcoming BPL after the name of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Many BPL franchisees are unhappy in such decision of the BCB and BPL Governing Council.

Calling an abrupt press conference recently, Comilla Victorians, two times BPL champions, expressed dissatisfaction about it.

Dynamites at a press conference yesterday said the team want to stay in BPL by fulfilling all the terms and conditions of the BCB and BPL Governing Council.

“We have decided in principle that we want to stay with BPL. We’re agreed to stay in BPL whatever format it would be. If we are given the responsibility as sponsor or team management, we are willing to stay with BPL,” said Dhaka Dynamites CEO Obeid Nizam.

Nizam clearly said, “Dhaka Dynamites and its sponsor Beximco want to stay with BPL. Now it is up to the board. But we want to remain with BPL. When the board will inform us, we will get to know about it.”

Asked if they want to remain with the other franchisees, Obaid said, “We can tell you only our matters. But if every franchisee takes a concerted initiative, we have nothing to do over it.”

Dhaka Dynamites do not think that there will be any big loss if BPL is not held one year with no franchisee, added Nizam. “This year if the board wants to take franchisees as sponsor they can do that. For this reason, the BPL will not face any big trouble. It would be better for all if the BPL could come back with new model after a year-long gap.”

“Actually we are waiting for the green signal of the board. We are willing to be part with this BPL. We’ll accept the way the board will want from us,” he said.

Obaid was flanked by Dhaka Dynamites head coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon on the occasion. When asked if he does not get the chance for coaching what he will do, Sujon said he is yet to think about it.

“We’re yet to talk regarding the matter. But if I get a chance, I will do it. There is nothing to do if I don’t get,” Khaled Mahmud Sujon replied.

“Giving a year-long break, if we get a new model for the BPL tournament, it will be better,” Sujon added.
