An anti-adulteration mobile court drive of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) yesterday awarded five days of simple imprisonment to Monirul Islam, manager of Star Kabab of Dhanmondi branch and two days of simple imprisonment to Golam Rabbani, manager of Ghorowa restaurant for using oil and colour harmful for public health in food items. The drive was conducted by SM Shanta Nur Chowdhury, executive magistrate of DSCC, as part of their regular drive against adulterated food, confirmed DSCC spokesman Uttam Kumar Roy.
The punitive measures were taken following the section-186 of penal code for keeping cooked and raw meet together in freeze and using harmful oil, colour and preparing foods in unhealthy environment. Star Kabab is a kebab restaurant chain located in Dhaka with 11 branches across the city. In 2015, it won the best Bangladeshi restaurant award in The Daily Star Foodiez choice awards. On the other hand, Ghorowa Hotel and Restaurant is another popular food villa which is located in New Elephant Road in the capital.
