6 brokers held from RMCH

A mobile court initiated by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) punished six brokers arrested from Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) premises on Tuesday afternoon. “An operational team of the crime prevention special company of RAB-13 here conducted a sudden raid on RMCH premises and arrested the brokers red-handed while cheating innocent patients in an organised way,” a release said yesterday. The arrested brokers are Md Zakaria of Nilphamari district, Debashish of Rangpur city, Rashidul Islam of Kurigram district, Md. Rubel of Rangpur district and Idris Ali and Md. Parvez of Rangpur city. Later, the elite force produced the arrested brokers before the mobile court of Executive Magistrate Md. Mehedi Hassan in the afternoon. After hearing on the charges, the mobile court fined Zakaria Taka 1,000, or in default to suffer seven-day jail-term, Debashish and Rashidul Taka 10,000, or in default, to suffer 15-day jail terms each. On payment of their respective fined money, the mobile court released brokers Zakaria, Debashish and Rashidul and cautioned them strongly of refraining from such crimes in future. The mobile court sentenced brokers Rubel, Idris Ali and Parvez to ten-day jail term without labour and sent them to the Rangpur Central Jail, the release added.
Youth dies in road mishap

A youth was killed and three others injured as a covered van hit a pickup van in Mitachara Bazar area under Mirsarai upazila of the district in the morning. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam, 30, assistant of the pickup van driver who hailed from Deviddar upazila of Cumilla district. Police said the accident took place around 6:30 am when the covered van rammed into a stationary pickup van, injuring four people. Locals took them to Mirsarai upazila health complex, but the attending doctors referred Shariful Islam to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he succumbed to injuries, said Ala Uddin Talukdar, sub-inspector of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost. The injured people are undergoing treatment at health complex.
