ADB agrees to finance upgrading 4 highways

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to fund for upgrading the country’s four highways to four lanes.

Country Director Manmohan Prakash yesterday disclosed the ADB’s decision when he made a courtesy call on Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at the secretariat here today, said a press release.

The highways are Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, Rangpur-Banglabandha Highway, Rangpur-Bhurimari Highway and Faridpur-Barishal Highway.

Apart from the four lanes, the highways will have a separate lane for slow-moving vehicles.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested the ADB for financing in the country’s road infrastructure development, the release said.

Feasibility studies on the Faridpur-Barishal and Rangpur-Bhurimari highways have already been done in this regard.

Obaidul Quader thanked the ADB country director for their continuous assistance for the road infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
