Four people were sentenced to death while three others got life term imprisonment in two districts.
In Kushtia, a court yesterday sentenced two persons to death and three others to life imprisonment in a murder case filed in 2012.
The convicts who got death penalty are - Nazmul, son of Aahad Ali of Ahamedpur village in Mirpur upazila, and Rony, son of Abul Kalam of Baromile area in Bheramara upazila.
Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Arup Kumar Goswami also fined them Tk 50,000 each. In default, they will have to serve one more year in jail.
According to prosecution, the convicts took victim Shohag to Harding Bridge in Bheramara on October 9, 2012. They murdered him there and dumped the body in a nearby bush. Our Manikganj correspondent adds: A court in Manikganj on Tuesday sentenced two men to death for killing a worker in the Sadar Upazila in 2010.
The convicts are - Masud, son of Mozaffar of Charhujuli village of Sadar upazila, and Sanowar, son of Bodiuzzaman of Tarakandi village in Bogura.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sahana Haque Siddique delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts.
According to case statement, the convicts were at loggerheads with Ratan, 22, a worker of Basundhara Steel Mill and son of Bishu Mia of Hijuli village of Sadar upazila.
On March 9, 2010, the convicts called the victim over phone and took him to the Dhaleshwari River bank where they strangled him.
Ratan’s father filed a case at the Sadar Police Station the next day.
